Traditional Open Air Festival in the Park
A very popular public celebration across the Mande Empire (Mali, parts of Senegal, the Gambia, Burkina Faso, Guinea, & Ivory Coast), Djanjoba brings people together to honor a specific person, concept, historical event or civic action.
Our Goals:
+To celebrate the dedicated teachers and culture bearers of Mande culture active in the Greater Los Angeles area.
+To create intergenerational discussion about the research, instruction and performance of Mande Cultural Arts
+To enjoy each other
With the support of Alliance of California Traditional Artists and collaboration of RhythmQuest, OCTENATE, ShowBox LA, Leimert Park Art Walk and Motherland Music, Souly Dance Arts invites you to the Djanjoba! Artistic Director Wilfried Souly has participated in these festivities since he was a child dancing professionally in Burkina Faso. He is honored to bring the experience to Southern California.
